Creating an online document
« on: July 17, 2012, 01:15:58 PM »
Hey everyone, I hope all your sites are doing good.

I was poking around on JackSpirko.com and found his resource section. That is something I have wanted to do.

My question is How the heck do I do that?

I want to create a checklist on buying a used car that someone could print out and take with them. I just don't really know where the heck to start.

Thanks for all the help from everyone here. I am pretty sure I would have quite this a while ago if not for the advice and motivation!

You just want them to be able to get a word type file from your site, correct?

If so it is media. You can upload it through media upload just like an image. You add it to your blog post just like an image too.

It's pretty simple, I have done it a few times myself.

Pretty much what Gunpreparedness said, but you might want to convert it to a PDF file first. If you don't already know PDFs are the universal document format and don't require Microsoft Word, or whatever the program you are using, to be installed at the user-end.

To create a PDFs you can use CutePDF (http://www.cutepdf.com/) which is free. Once you've created the document you just "print" it as a PDF and save this on your computer.

You can simply create a pdf file, with the pdf writer that Matt suggested or if you have Office 2007 or higher there is an option to save/export as pdf. If you don't have the office suite you can download OpenOffice.org or Libre Office (fork of the same office programs) which also can export to pdf.

If you want to upload it to your website you can create a new directory like "ebooks" in root folder or use the media/image uploader in Wordpress.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/

installs PDF as a print driver. So in any application .. file > print and it will save the print out as a PDF
