How long should a domain name be?
« on: May 01, 2012, 12:03:14 PM »
Opinion/expertise needed...

Is there a point where there are too many characters in a domain name or does it matter?

Thanks

Depends on what it is being used for.

MakingAReallyLongDomainNameBecauseYouWantToFitLotsofKeywords.com

is silly.

It makes it too easy for people to make typos and stuff...

I usually try to use about 3 or 4 words and not more than that.

Share the domain with us then :)

I was going to do a site called HomeBusinessInterviews.com

Thats like 20 characters... but it made sense and that was the keyword phrase I wanted the site to rank well for.

I was looking at freedomlibertyandselfreliance.com

I haven't registered it yet because I was wondering about the length.  Feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks.

What about getting rid of the "and" or the "self"?

I'm not involved in your niche so I don't know what keywords to target...

This looks like more of a "branding" type domain... In which case the keywords in the domain don't matter much.

I don't think you'll rank for "freedom" or "liberty". The only keyword that you'd really have a good chance of ranking for is "self reliance".

So do you really need all those 3 keywords?

(freedom and liberty are too generic of a keyword term)
