Social Network Plugins?
« on: April 06, 2012, 06:15:36 AM »
Hi Gang!

In all of your collective experience, is there a "best" WordPress plugin for letting people follow you on multiple forms of social media?  Or do I have to get a plugin for each type of social media?

Thanks.
Joe

I don't know about best, but often one plugin will cover all.  There are many.

One that I like is social sharing toolkit.  Wish they'd upgrade it to add Pinterest.  I was going to switch to another one which included Pinterest too but it didn't let me edit how tweets go out.  If someone where to tweet my post, yes they should be able to edit the default tweet.  But I do set mine up to include via @Heidi_Caswell  as I can see through twitter who is sharing my posts.

Thanks.  I like it.  I was thinking there must be one that covered all of them.  I'm not on pinterest yet, but I suppose that is going to have to happen.

I don't like one billion social media links. I don't like having 20 icons on a post. Most people won't ever click them and I'd rather get 5 clicks on facebook and 1 click on 5 different social sites. If that makes sense?

The plugin I use is "smart sharing" which provides a social media floating box beside your individual posts. That way it doesn't interfere with the content. It covers the majors like Facebook, Twitter, and Digg.

Thanks Benfitts.  I agree some that I have seen have too many icons.  I just need a few.  I'm really only focusing on getting twitter, FB at the moment.

Why not just put all the links on your "contacts" page?

Also don't forget to create email subscription widget in the sidebar for your RSS-feed. I use Google Feedburner for my RSS-stuff. It's an awesome service!

Liking a post is different than liking me or following me. :)

Getting Diggs, Google +1, Shares, Likes, etc on individual posts can have a traffic effect as well as SEO effect.

Generic facebook likes, twitter follows, Google+ follows, etc is good too, but a totally different thing.
