I'm a Philly suburbs boy and Jack is originally from central PA.
The farther west from Philly you get, the more of a mid-west/southern mix accent you hear with the locals. A few guys on my current team are from Western PA and they have that weird combo accent.

Or maybe he just spent too much time around Texans.

I'm from Houston, born and raised. I've noticed that the "southern" accents are not as thick when you're from/in the city. The further into the 'burbs and then the sticks you go, the thicker and more prevalent the accents. I've noticed Jack's accent evolving a bit but I'd bet it's from moving to the country and being around people with thicker accents.

It doesn't even stand out to me when Jack speaks with a southern drawl.

What does stand out though is every now and then he will say a word with an almost New England accent. :o

I know a lot of people that moved around in their formative years whose accent switches back and forth like that.

I grew up in the south with a lot of non-southern friends so my accent fades in and out as well depending on whom I'm talking to.
