MailChimp - How to disable double opt-in
« on: January 20, 2012, 11:12:40 AM »
Does anyone know how to turn off the double opt in in Mailchimp?
I know it's required by SPAM but I'd like the option.
I know it's possible in Aweber.
It's also possible in MailChimp but I don't understand how to do it.

Thanks,

Joshuab

I've not tried that with mailchimp, but I've had no problems adding emails addresses from gmail contacts without them opting in.  (Local group members who gave me their emails so they can get group newsletters)

hmmm. I thought I replied to this......

You cannot disable double opt-in on MailChimp, at least not the free account.

Josh,

Is this discussion:  http://groups.google.com/group/mailchimp-api-discuss/browse_thread/thread/92f50454dc1d534b/9143653d4ab68d31
only for folks with a paid account?

Thanks for the help.

No problem... I was just really confused. Deja vu and all that.

Hold the phone! I didn't read the whole the help file: http://kb.mailchimp.com/article/can-i-shut-off-the-e-mail-that-asks-people-for-confirmation-that-they-want-

Quote
When you use MailChimp's signup forms, we require the full double opt-in process and there is not a way to turn off the email that asks for confirmation to join your list.

If you want to create your own single opt-in forms, you may do so, but we still don't recommend single opt-in. Here's a great example of why we don't recommend single opt-in and details about how double opt-in works and why we recommend it over other methods.

Stupid reading.

So it looks like it can be done. Can anyone explain how to do it?

But I can't find where to edit the code...I'm sure it's right in front of me but I'm new to code hacking :-)

You can modify the listSubscribe() function in the Wordpress plugin for MailChimp.
