Help! Ethical (sorta) dilemma...
« on: January 11, 2012, 10:39:19 PM »
I just got offered a free customer holster to review (my first such offer - woo!). I'm torn between whether I should ask for the style I would really prefer (a left-handed OWB for a TT33 Tokarev) and keep it myself (to make appearances in my other videos) or get the most popular and commonly used style (right-handed IWB for a Makarov) and give it away to a reader through random drawing or some type of contest. What do you think? Would it be too much to ask for two, so I have one to review myself and give the other away?

1. If you're left-handed, how would you properly and fairly review a right-handed holster?

2. Be clear that it was donated.

3. Keep it if you like it. It may encourage others to send stuff.

4. Forgot #4: asking is free. Or add to the offer. "If you send it, I'll wear it in my videos."

I would ask for the left. "The worse is they can say no". If they asked you to review it, you have the high ground.

Get what you would like/use might lead to a more "emotional" review and will not set off peoples BS detectors. Will drive more traffic to their site making it easier down the road to pitch a giveaway/contest.

Well, I ended up asking for both the holster I want myself and one to give away. The fellow thought that was a great idea, so that's what we're doing.

Best of both worlds! He gets a free contest to build word-of-mouth and you get a keeper so you'll continue talking about it!

Yep! I'm going to try the same approach on a really nice Timney trigger for a Mosin Nagant (or rather, two of them) at the show today. :)
