Anyone have Book Review Template they'd like to share?
« on: January 07, 2012, 10:09:01 PM »
Hi Everyone,

Does anyone have a template of the things to discuss in a book review?  It's been 25 years since I last wrote one!
This is what I've come up with...
Title
Edition
Author name
Main Character (author bias or influence)
Size of book
Illustrations
Parts of the Book
What did I like about the book?
1.           2.        3.
What I didn’t like about the book?
1.            2.        3.
Recommendation (Buy / Not Buy)
Where to Buy

This is helpful!  I am using your template to write a book review for my blog right now.

I reviewed a non-fiction book so I added a complete table of contents and a link to the author's website.  I didn't do 'illustration' (although perhaps I should have, since it has some photos).

I, also, just used your layout to review a book on my blog.  It helped me fill in a lot of info I left out of my first book review.

Maybe we should get this post stickied to the top of this topic?!  ???

I never use a template for reviews.  As with  most posts I write, I have a conversation with an imaginary reader in my head and write out that conversation.  Sounds a little hokey but that way I end up with a more accessible and genuine piece that sounds like I talk.

Every time I try to write more formally, I end up unhappy with the results.  Once I switched to conversational writing, it worked out great.  Honestly, it's kinda like writing a public email.
My main blog is Preparing Your Family

I know this is an older thread, but wanted to chime in.
I've seen some book 'reviews' that a 3rd grader would be ashamed of...

All of the fields can be customized when setting up the template. I wanted to use the same backdrop for the book reviews I have planned. I believe it lends credibility to the review if the guidelines are the same each time.
