WordPress Wizardry / Scheduled post not showing html
« on: October 09, 2013, 08:58:41 AM »
I know this forum has been hurting, but hopefully someone will see this.

When I schedule posts and the day comes and they go live, none of the adsense or youtube html embeds show up i have to go back in and post them and update the posts. which kindof defeats the purpose of scheduling the post itself

had to wait 6 months to break the 100 dollar limit and get my first adsense check now its easily cracking the 100 a month and aroudn 150 plus another hundred from amazon.  its not enough to live on obviously but just seeing a check seems to boost the motivation.  My ebook on how to write a resume for security contracting seems to be picking up as well which is nice, the ebook route seems to be very rewarding as once your done...your done other than updates every few months when new information becomes available...but its very passive and you just sit there and get an email every so often letting you know someone bought the book!

Motivational Mania / Re: Progress so far

mxitman,

Sorry I havent checked back in a bit....

I do really like the Genesis Framework, I need to figure out how to edit the CSS a bit to widen the layout a bit more, but havent gotten around to it yet, just too much to do.

As far as mobile goes...its ok, what I really need to do is get a dedicated Mobile version finished, once again havent gotten aroudn to it.

The "News Child Theme" ran me $75 but i also get access to more themes as well with that purchase.  For now I love the News Child Theme, however I keep running into a fork in the road.  Do I want to make it more simple easier to access (as the amount of "stuff" that it has can give those with slower bandwith Slower load times...or do i keep all the accessibility im offered now?  Still trying to figure that out.

Overall theres a lot I need to do to the site, new pages, editing the old ones that i had typed up over a year ago and were pretty....rough.  But the time concerns regarding, School, work and raising a baby pretty much limits me to JUST keeping up with posting 3-5 times a week and not really getting into my overhaul...awww well the problems of a internet business right!

Motivational Mania / Progress so far
« on: February 05, 2013, 12:08:24 PM »
Its been awhile since i last posted, the birth of our child and life has just pretty much kept me to posting, working and playing with the baby!

Anyways, since October visit have increased 10 fold.  I was averaging about 200 a day in october, which increased to 300 in november with a spike of 1000+ two days of that week and December hit 500 a day with two spikes over 1000.  January increased to 700 and had 5 spikes over 1000 and February has brough thus far 1272 on feb 1, 1148 Feb 2, 1048 Feb 3, and 1118 Feb 4th.

The numbers jumped because i began to post everyday, i sat down when i had time and punched out numerous posts. so if i had time id do 2 or 5, depending on the day and the length of the post.  Doing this brought me on the radar of a few new aggregate sites that have since pushed my feed on theirs and that has been responsible for the big jump.  I was also put on top 50 best blog sites for my niche on one site and #7 out of 10 on another.  This was due to the fact i listened to the advice from Jack, followed my passion as well as received an IMMENSE amount of help from you all.

My google adsense is now sending me a check every month as well as amazon and linkshare revenue, enough to pay for the site for the most part, but the money over the top goes back into the site and helping promote it and give back to the readers/listeners Which im happy to do.

My other sites are fairing ok, my blackwaterjob site launched an ebook that has sold some copies, and has jumped in visitors since the last google update pushed me ahead of the crap sites that were one page and had three paragraphs and a crap toon of adsense pasted everywhere.  my water filter review site is Dead mostly because i havent touched it in 6 months, and was a experiment. Competition is too large and i cant compete without spending ALL My time doing it, and even them probably wouldnt help much without massive injections of cash into advertising.  SO i learned that!  I also started a new site that bases around a popular facebook game and it is paying for the hosting as of right now, but not much more, but that has only been up for around......3-4 weeks so im happy to be breaking even given that i spend 99% of my online work time with my main site.

Keep at it everyone, we are all hitting different benchmarks, i am very happy to be hitting the ones i am now, makes all that work seem worthwhile!

« on: October 20, 2012, 01:05:22 AM »
from what i understand in my cpanel aw stats in the download section...

206 hits are when someone listens to say an audio file, but not to the end or when someone like itunes rips it from your feed correct?

because im seeing a 46, 250 on one podcast, 16,297, 59,164 and im confused?

I dont have my feedburner up to register my actual itunes listens or anything...so....

General Business Issues and Ideas / duplicate content google
« on: October 07, 2012, 01:56:43 AM »
Posted this in the SEO section, and decided to post it here, hoping someone can help..

---------------------------------------------
So i was just thinking, after reading over and over again through these past 6 months about how Google doesnt like duplicate content, i would just skim that and say....well i dont do that so no worries!

Then!....Then....I realized that i am!

I originally had a main site built with sitebuilder through hostgator and a "Blog" on .wordpress.com
Eventually with all the pain and heartache that is involved with a newbie with no experience doing this, I built a brand new wordpress page on hostgator and transferred all the old wordpress blog posts and info to the new one.

However I left up the old blog to continue to drive traffic to the new site.

So this is what i did

1) I transferred 2-3 months worth of posts to the new site from the old blog
2) every month i would transfer the new posts from the new site to the old one

I did this thinking that alot of folks were still coming to the old site and i wanted them to be able to stay updated with the course of the blog.

i realize now i am possibly being penalized by google for this and not even know it!

What are your thoughts?

Should i delete the old posts off the new site and vice versa (new posts of the old site) ?

Ben,

Im not 100% on the article in every way.  As far as anchor text links go, are we talking about other sites linking to us with the keywords that we are trying to rank for or is this also inpage links as well such as what is done with SEO SMARTLINKS plugin, linking certain words to internal pages.

Peer Review - Website Blog Critique / Re: Two niche sites for review
« on: September 19, 2012, 12:36:33 AM »
Heidi,

Im not sure about the promotion, only due to the fact that this is a very small niche market, theres not tens of thousands of people who need this information a month, only a few thousand, and  probably on a few hundred who are really serious enough to buy an ebook like this.

This is not so much meant to be my big money makers, but to be a decent stream once time, backlinks and seo push me up in the rankings (still kills me because the top rated pages...are just junk... search "Blackwater job" and look at like Blackwaterjobs.com and blackwatercareers.com....adsense 1 page junk!)

This is also my learning curve niche sites, im trying to do what i need to and figure out what works and what doesnt, and to learn what to do and especially WHAT NOT to do.  I KNOW there is a market for a book like this and for this information it just needs to reach the level where it is easily readable.

Peer Review - Website Blog Critique / Prepper site: second look
« on: September 13, 2012, 10:52:16 PM »
I have already submitted this before, but i think i have made some good changes and content has been flowing.

so can you take another look and let me know what you think works.

one of my main concerns is "clutter" is the front page too cluttered?

I want to offer adspace and do for some revenue, but i also want space for "my stuff" and i feel i may be overwhelming the visitors....

what say you all fellow travelers on the road to 100k?

r00tbeer,

currently i am NOT doing any paid advertising.  I had a bunch of that "free credit" on google and bing and have been saving them for once i get more content published and grow a bit in the rankings by that as well through SEO keyword research and writing articles specific to those keywords. which im happy with the amount of posts i have currently (For the time being)

I am also trying a tactic that was recommended on Pat Flynn's Smart Passive Income Podcast.  Which was to write articles for Ezine and Ehow, which are basically unpaid but help your backlinks.  So currently instead of trying to post everyday on the sites.  I am trying to write 1 article a week, then tweak it so its slightly different and send it to another, tweak again, etc, etc.  Then i tweak it a final time and submit it to INFOBARREL so at least i can earn a little adsense or amazon income here and there from that work as well.  The old expand he next to catch more fish.

With this i hope to gain a little bit more traction.

With the Blackwater site specifically, I used to work for them so i know that company, its contracts and requirements very well.  I cant speak AS authoritatively on other contracts as i can on them so i figured, go niche niche on this one, im not looking for 1000 visitors a day, im looking for those very interested and dedicated individuals who are actually looking for REAL information on how to work for them.  With that extremely targeted group I think i can convert well.  My plan is to finish the ebook im writing on "how to", which involves the weapons qualifications, physical qualifications, what each job entails and how to write a resume correctly, which is key to getting the job.

I will post ALL of the ebook on the site in dedicated posts over the next few months and then offer the ebook on amazon for 9.99 with the whole caveat. "You can get all this information for free on my site, but if you dont want to scroll through every post and copy and paste, you can get it all here in a easy and fast manner" or something to that effect.

This isnt a site that will be around in perpetuum, but will be relevant for the next few-5 years as the contracting world continues to expand and then inevitably returns to normal.

The reason that i chose Blackwater over "how to be a mercenary" is for one reason....well two since you mentioned the M word.

mercenary is someone who lives in one country and goes to fight in another country for another country.
As a Blackwater contractor i was an american who worked for america overseas, in a official capacity, albeit not a traditional role.

doing the keyword research i found REALLY good traffic for BW how to job type of keywords and upon actually looking around the net....the top rated sites were the SCUMMMY SCUMMY SCUMMY of the scummiest adsense sites.

a couple paragraphs, one page, with a crapton of adsense (and yes my adsense is a bitt too much which i will fix once i am done with my taxes!)

so theres no real value or information on the first page of google for real people wanting real information

I subscribe to what Nicole Dean (a niche website entrepreneur) said, in that Yes we want to make money and convert our readers and visitors to dollars, but we also want to offer value and make the internet a better place.

I want to do that as well.

I things dont pick up i may play around with google and bing ads as well as stumbleupon but i will see how they work out and convert.  I feel as long as i offer value, and pump out quality content, and try and help the visitors who take time to come to my site, things will happen, good things will happen.
