Physical Products / Online store shopping cart
« on: February 21, 2013, 01:07:56 PM »
I am in the process of getting set up with a couple drop shoppers and want to launch an online store ASAP.

I have set up a subdomain for my store, but I am not sure what to do for my ecommerce software needs.

What is best, a WordPress plugin or a total solution? I would like to keep my monthly operating costs low, I really don't want a monthly fee. What do you guys suggest?

The Water Cooler / What Blogging Blogs Do You Follow?
« on: November 14, 2012, 10:06:11 AM »
Since Jack is taking a break from the show, what blogging blogs do you follow?

I read problogger.net just about daily.
I just joined their forum, (don't do it)
I read shoutmeloud.com on occasion
I also watch videos from Lisa on to make a website on YouTube

So what do you use?

Getting Sponsors and Advertisors / Affiliates vs Direct Ad Sales
« on: November 06, 2012, 01:44:04 PM »
What is your guys opinion on the two?

I have had several people buy ads as their businesses were starting up, then stop renewing the ad when they start affiliate programs. They then try to get me to join their programs. I see this as free advertising for them. What are your thoughts?

I do have an Amazon affiliate account which I use, but I'm thinking that another one would just be another hassle. So in your opinion is it best to join their program or say no and find a advertiser that is willing to pay?

General Business Issues and Ideas / Off Grid Blogging
« on: October 31, 2012, 02:35:00 PM »
As most of us here begin to build small businesses with our blogs we need to think about backups for power and internet failures. As your blog grows you become more connected to it and the internet. What is your plan if either the power or internet fail.

This is a reality I am facing and I one day hope to do as Jack, and so many other bloggerss have and step away from a job to blog full time.

So what is your backup for a power or internet failure?

Search Engine Marketing / Search engine not picking up posts
« on: October 14, 2012, 06:25:45 PM »
I signed up for Google alerts several months ago to track my brand. I have recently noticed that I am not getting the daily alerts.

I then Googled a few of my recent blog post titles and they did not show up on Google. My site map plugin is still building sitemaps and submitting them to Google. I am not doing anything different in seo and am using the all in one seo plugin still.

Does anyone know why Google isn't picking up my new posts?

General Business Issues and Ideas / Chicken or the Egg
« on: September 19, 2012, 11:53:23 AM »
I have seen many people start new sites and have the chicken or the egg problem. I am one of those people. I've actually ran into this problem twice now.

You have a site that needs user submitted content, yet your site is new and no one knows about it. How do you solve this problem?

Does anyone have a solution for the problem?

I'll share my thoughts after a few chime in.

WordPress Wizardry / wp e-commerce not viewing correctly
« on: September 17, 2012, 08:20:59 AM »
I've had wp e-commerce for quite some time and now have switched to a new theme. Now my products stretch over and cover up my ads on the sidebar.

Does anyone know a solution for this?

Search Engine Marketing / Niche Sites
« on: September 14, 2012, 09:17:04 PM »
I got on a wim back in May to create several niche sites. I ended up getting over my head and too busy with the main blog. The sites got left. I figured they would get a little traffic and one day I could bring them to life.

One of my sites has been sitting with a landing page and two articles all his time. One article on emergency radios the other on emergency kits. The site is getting like 20 visitors a month. Is there just not enough content, or could I have not got good keywords? I thought by now I would be getting around 50 a month. Am I just not doing enough?

Social Networking Nirvana / Is Facebook Worth It?
« on: September 07, 2012, 06:48:08 AM »
As many of you know I have had a hard time getting likes on my Facebook for GunPreparedness.
I now have CriminalProtectionZone.com and am wondering if it is worth the effort to create a Facebook for it. It has taken way more effort to get a Facebook going than it ever took for Twitter. I am begining to wonder if the return on investment is going to be worth it for a new site.

What are your thoughts?

WordPress Wizardry / Leaflet Maps Maker
« on: September 06, 2012, 09:23:45 AM »
Has anyone ever used Leaflet Maps Maker? I am having trouble adding in new markers. Every time I add an address the plugin removes it and places my marker in Vienna, where ever that is. I've looked at the settings and cant find a way to change it.

Any help is appreciated.

Peer Review - Website Blog Critique / Gun Free Zone Database
« on: September 04, 2012, 10:45:46 PM »
I have created a website to hopefully be a gun free zone database that can be used all across the us.

It's a WordPress based site with front end posting and registration. I am relying on users to submit the no carry locations in their area to the site.

Could you please take a look and tell me where I need to make improvements.

General Business Issues and Ideas / User Generated Content
« on: August 28, 2012, 05:30:17 PM »
I got the idea for a site that runs of user generated content.

I started the site and have it pretty much set up. Now I'm at a point where I need the users to start producing content.

My problem is how do I get users to submit the content to the site?

WordPress Wizardry / raw html
« on: August 17, 2012, 10:09:16 AM »
I think I saw on here a way to override WordPress changing your html.

WordPress has been changing my adsense code and my ads are not displaying. I really need a way to override this and paste the code into my posts. I tried a raw plugin, but it didn't work.

WordPress Wizardry / .gif not annimated
« on: August 15, 2012, 08:29:47 AM »
I just switched from adventure journal theme to elbee elgee theme. I wanted a theme with a right hand column that was 250px for an ad. Once I switched my .gif images are no longer annimated.
Has anyone else ever experianced this problem or does anyone know of a solution?

Motivational Mania / Site Stats
« on: August 03, 2012, 08:13:53 PM »
I started my blog last September, I posted a few times last year, maybe 5 total.

As of January 18th I have posted 5 days a week (most weeks) and done a weekly recap each week. My site stats were slow to take off. 200+ unique visitors in January, 500+ in February, and 900+ in March Then April hit and something amazing happened I had over 3k. Over 4.5k in May. I have held steady around the 4.5k unique visitor mark since then.

It seams to me like I should be gaining more traffic than that. What do you guys think?
