I am having a bad time with spammers in my simplemachines forums. I remove the spam, I remove the person from the members list and put them on the ban list. I will check again a few hours later and the same person who is on the ban list has signed in again and put as many as 15 advertisements on my forums. I looked on the simplemachines site and didn't see anything that addressed this. Is anyone else having this problem? I love the software.

Thanks, Bill

OK, I've been up and running for a month now. I think I have worked out the beginner's bugs, so tell me what you think.
I started with BuddyPress but I did not like the way it worked. I went with SimplePress for the forum and I like it better. Currently the site is just for fun and comments for the gents in the industry.  When the number count gets to where I want it, I will sell banners and pay-per-clicks.  Word of mouth has me 6 regulars thus far. autotechsforum.com

Social Networking Nirvana / Wix

Hi fellow roadies,
Has anyone used WIX, www.wix.com. They are pre-made templates for making primo Facebook pages. Their site says, Note: FB templates are for FB pages, not profiles. I'm not sure I know the difference as I don't use Facebook that much. I tried this weekend, unsuccessfully, to make a page with it, but it looks promising. If you have any info on them, please pass it along.

A friend told me that the same folks make Twitter templates as well, though I did not see anything about it.

WordPress Wizardry / WP theme and forum
« on: January 22, 2012, 04:46:58 PM »
Hi folks, I need some advice.

I have been trying a number of free Wordpress themes and a forum to work together and I've not found what I want yet. I tried twenty eleven with BuddyPress, but BuddyPress is, in my and my subscriber's opinion, too hard to log on to. So, I tried other forums, and other themes. Now, I have an unusable theme...I can't get rid of my menus on twenty eleven. I'm not the only person with this problem according to the WP forums.

To my point. I like the look of Suffusion (the free version)  and Simple Machines forum. I need to know if they work together. I found a couple of what I thought were great themes to find out after I install them, they only have one useable page; one can't add a forum.

Thanks in advance

WordPress Wizardry / wordpress problems
« on: December 30, 2011, 08:48:16 AM »
Long post, please be patient.
I give up. Because of my target audience, my idea of a 100K business will have to involve a forum (like this one). I downloaded WordPress 3.3, went to YouTube and watched a couple of install videos, attempted to install, and of course, it could not find my PHP. That's because I didn't have that software. I went to some forums and found that I needed to install something called Wampserver from SourceForge. I installed it and if found my WordPress index file. I thought that would be good.  I tested the localhost function and it always errors out (403 Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server). I went to Wampserver fourms and tried some of the fixes for this error ( I'm not the only one with this problem) with no success. Can someone tell me of a more compatible PHP service than Wampserver? Otherwise, I will give up, save up many dollars like a friend did and pay someone to put this up for me. In fact, if there are any of you who want to offer your services now, leave me a private message with a price estimate.

Having car trouble on the road to 100k.

Time to give back (although I don't like that phrase normally).
If one goes back to the first 5 5MWJ pocasts, as  I have several times, there is an amazing amount of info there. I have scribbled down a lot if this and put it in a list. If anyone wants to add to this, feel free to add. If there is a better place to list these, let me know.

General Business Issues and Ideas / Checking account
« on: December 21, 2011, 04:47:42 PM »
Hi fellow entrepreneurs,

First, I realize that I need to get content and hit counts up first, but I need a little advice. Are any of you starting a business checking account separate from your personal checking from the beginning? I know that it will be few weeks before the money starts rolling in  :), but it's something I need to plan for when the site does start taking off. Does you account have your name or your brand name on it ( if you have one).

Motivational Mania / My story
« on: December 15, 2011, 02:05:51 PM »
Ok, here's my story. I figured out what I wanted to do at age 18. I went to school for it, and stayed in the field for 23 years. After burn out from the job, I bought into a franchise (they called it a distributorship, same thing). I ignored the old saying "the only people who make money in a franchise is the person selling the franchise." The old saying is correct. Back to the old job after 2 years of no pay. Got the opportunity to teach my trade and that's where I have been for the past 12 years. As I move towards retirement age (I'm not going to retire) I realize that it's time for me to use my vocation and my teaching skills to start a part-time business, to move to a full-time business. Jack, you have been car-pooling with me for the past 7 months via my MP3 player. I have been prepping for some time now and I'm going to drop the excuses and take the plunge to start my own cyber-business. Thanks from all of us for the encouragement.
