Peer Review - Website Blog Critique / Feedback On Sales Copy/Site
« on: March 07, 2013, 12:30:57 AM »
So I just updated and started a new site, that's basically a sales page for one of my products. First time I've done a sale-scopy type page outside of eBay so I'm sure it needs more work. It still has some things to get up like my install videos and some more documentation. I have my main business dedicated site http://heezy.com and now my new site at http://easytransferswitch.com

I know their isn't too many people left around here, but any feedback on the layout and message would be great, I only have Firefox & IE8 to test it on too...

I'll be driving traffic to the easy transfer switch site through several sites, along with PPC & organic methods. I'll be getting most of my sales through Amazon & Other sites until I can get to a trade show and hopefully a distributor.

That's what I have so far, so let me know.

Thanks,

Rick

Physical Products / From Concept To Sellable Product...
« on: January 24, 2013, 04:39:04 PM »
So I have several physical products that I'll be coming out with this year, was wondering if anyone on here has gone from concept to a final product? I've just got my UPC codes and I'm currently building the product pages on Amazon. I was thinking of doing a video on the whole process, or if anyone else wants to chime with their experiences would be great.

I've sold stuff on ebay for years but have gone away from them due to the high service fees. Looking to branch out on Amazon with official products now and also though one of my sites.

So last year when I started posting How To Videos on Youtube and through my site; http://RicksDIY.com I also decided to ad the banner through adsense. Thinking it might give me a few bucks but not really much to think about...well for the most part I didn't post too many videos and fell out of it for awhile.

Last week I got an email from Google Adsense asking me to finish the the payment process..basically my tax info for my business and I was surprised to see that they were sending me a check for $240...

May not be much for some, but for not really doing anything it was a huge surprise and has motivated me to do allot more videos and really push the site this year.

Not sure exactly what you would call it, but I've seen some very professional e-Book Pictures/logos like these;

Is there any particular best way to design these? I can do some basic Photoshop stuff but haven't got to this quality. I've also seen one's that look like these;

The latter one's look like they printed them and then took photo's, I can do that also...not sure what is the best for appearance. Maybe just find one like these and add my own graphics? Just wanted to get some opinions...

The Water Cooler / Rental problems..vent required
« on: February 27, 2012, 09:47:00 PM »
So I just thought I would vent a bit here, we have a Mother In Law detached home next to our home. We had it rented out to an old co-worker of mine. Well after renting it with no issues for a year we started getting the rent late, then he lost his job and I found out he was on Meth. He said he was going to treatment but when I tried helping him out I found he was just lying. In the end we had to evict him and of course he trashed the place.

Luckily I can do most any home repair there is, so we were able to get everything repainted, replaced the range, refrigerator and kitchen island. Plus had to replace the broken toilet and sink faucet. Had to replace most of the carpet, molding and patch a dozen or so holes in the wall/ceiling. He also shorted out of the wall heater by trying to wire a 120V extension cord in a 240V heater? he must have been high...anyways there was about $4000 in damages done and he has skipped town...I don't plan on pursuing anything from him but it sucks when you are honest and have integrity and you get people that do crap like that.

Now I thought I was done but when testing out the Clothes washer the water backed up all over the bathroom...in the end turns out the 60 year old sewer line decided now was the time to rust through and fill full of dirt. So last weekend I had to replace about 10' of sewer line, half of that under a concrete slab. Was my first time working directly on the sewer main and for the most part went exactly as planned but I had a tough time locating the main line since we have so many hot rocks my metal detector couldn't find the line so I dug a 3' deep trench for about 10' before I found it. What a pain the butt, Looks like it might have been crushed at one time by a truck driving over maybe? Anyways it's working good now.

So this all happened while we have it listed for rent of course, have had about 6 people come out and look at it, and had 2 apply. Well the first one had all sorts of issues with keeping a job and his girlfriend didn't work and was going to school...I liked them but after talking to the owner of the townhouse they are renting now they always have issues paying the rent on time and have had numerous other issues. candidate #2 turned out to have child molestation & multiple drug charges on his recorded that he didn't tell us about. So since he lied and we have a 1 year old child I said No F..n Way!

So far, 5 months since we have had it rented...sucks big time. I hope I get a good renter soon, we were hoping for someone for March...but it may be April now...just hope nothing else comes up. Anyown in the North Seattle are looking for a place?

Article Writing and Blogging / Critique My Site
« on: January 30, 2012, 12:30:27 PM »
Hey I finally got around to getting my first real post up today, I was hoping I can get some critique of my overall look/feel content approach...It's my first blog and even though I've been online with some other sites, this is my first attempt at doing everything myself. It's pretty rough and I just started using WP on Friday...so keep that in mind...so much to learn. I can take some criticism.... I would appreciate it, can't learn if you don't don't fall down sometime.

Thanks,

WordPress Wizardry / Hosting & WP Questions
« on: January 16, 2012, 02:31:00 PM »
Not sure if this is in the right section or not; ???

So I have used a number of hosts but currently have dropped down to using Yahoo for one of the last few sites I'm still doing. I haven't kept up with the " who's - who's " I have a few satellite sites I would like to start up, currently building them and would like to go live soon. I wanted to be able to have something cost effective for what it is...a mostly static site driving traffic to my other sites..etc.

I know Jack has mention Hostgator before and I have had experience with them, but it was about 2 years ago. Looking at opening 5-7 sites in the next 6 months...so hoping to get some first hand knowledge on who everyone is using these days. I plan on just using WP and doing as Jack said, about 5-7 pages, some video from Youtube... etc. I rather have something reliable and easy to use than having a Down & Dirty Cheap host that is a pain to work with!

No selling, other than maybe an imbedded link for paypal etc...

Thanks,

Rick

Physical Products / Outsourcing Help
« on: January 03, 2012, 02:36:39 PM »
Anyone have experience with outsourcing a electronic/mechanical device to China or another country. I have a product I've developed and I had a few US companies do some prototyping for me. I made one version myself and now have 3 versions with the one I want for final development finally picked out. The only problem is the cost for manufacturing here in the US and while I would love to stamp made in the USA on it, since most of the components are electronic they aren't made here anyway. I can definitely make it work at the current product cost but eventually would love to drop the overall selling point to drive sales.

I have contacted a few companies in other countries through Alibaba but I never followed through with sending them my prototype, as I didn't trust them after our conversations. Anyone with first hand experience with any companies?
