Knowing Yourself and Your Customer / Word of Mouth Networking
« on: March 29, 2012, 09:21:28 AM »
Question:

How do you start word of mouth networking and marketing when there appears to be no active network available to start with?

Back Story:

I'm running a podcast on sustainability.  For the past couple months I've been searching the internet to find forums, blogs, and other podcasts to openly comment, share ideas, and try and get my name out there.  The problem is that I can't find anything in this area that is active, or at the level I'm trying to communicate with.  Sustainability, at this point, is limited (as far as I can find) to corporate, government, or university (with universities limiting their talks to their own campuses) levels.  My goal is to bring sustainability to the individual.  After all, what good does creating a more sustainable world do if it is imposed by big corps, big government, and other higher ups if the general population isn't on board with their decisions?  I believe that sustainability should start with the individual and work up, not the other way around, and that is what I'm trying to share.

Plans so far:

I will be implementing a forum at some point in the near future, but I would like to have the traffic in place to allow for a successful community on the forum.  So how do I get the traffic?

I do not currently have the funds to allow for pay-per-click advertising or other paid advertising.

I'm working on creating a network with Twitter and Facebook, but so far have had very limited success.

Another Question:

I've considered that my field of view is too narrow, but I'm not sure how to get outside of the box here.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to start this word of mouth networking to increase traffic that is outside what I've already mentioned?

WordPress Wizardry / podPress trouble shooting
« on: January 01, 2012, 01:36:02 PM »
I'm having a beast of a time getting podPress to play my files.  On my newest post I finally got the player to show up on the post, but it wouldn't play the .mp3 file it was linked to.  For the mean time I've got "AudioPlayer" up so the podcasts can be played, but does anyone have any insight as to what I need to do with podPress to get it to work?

Steps I've taken:

1. Upload .mp3 file to media library
2. Create post
3. Add file location, name, and type to the podPress feature at the bottom of the page
4. Publish post
5. Rinse and repeat in an effort to make it work properly
6. Pull what's left of my hair out

Thanks ahead of time to anyone who is familiar enough with podPress to help me out here

Podcasting Central / Question for Jack
« on: December 31, 2011, 03:09:16 PM »
Was wondering if you use a specific plugin for your audio linking on your podcasts that gives you that line under the player that says "Episode-744- Building a Business to Create Economic Freedom [ 1:17:51 ] Hide Player | Play in Popup | Download" or if you created a link that you copy/paste and update for each show.

Currently working on getting on itunes and getting linking to various feeds working with the main goal of making my content more accessible to the masses.

Thank you for all your time and knowledge, Jack, much appreciated!

Motivational Mania / New Podcaster
« on: December 30, 2011, 09:16:05 PM »
Hi, my name is Zach.  After listening to TSP for a year or so, it hit me, actually, a particular podcast about creating alternative income streams and creating an online business hit me.  So I bought a domain name, started up WP and posted a few podcasts.  Unfortunately I have had a severe lack of motivation, due to many outside factors, and haven't been actively pursuing my podcasting lately.  Now, I'm working every day to kick myself in the butt to get going.  I'm currently creating new content with plans to start posting again on Jan 1, 2012.  Listening to FMWJ and TSP has really got me inspired and motivated, although I do admit that I need a good kick in the ass from time to time to keep moving forward.

My podcast focuses on sustainability, which is an odd phrase, since it's impossible to "focus" on such a large topic.  My formal education was in Sustainable Systems, and I spend a lot of my leisure time reading about related topics.  It's something I'm passionate about, exceedingly knowledgeable about, and something that I want to share with the world, with the ultimate goal of creating a full income on.

I currently manage a garden center, and for 3 months of the year, I work way more than is healthy for any individual, the other 9 months, I still work too hard for the compensation and appreciation I receive.  I will make this podcast work, supplement my income, and eventually move on to what I truly love, farming, sustainable agriculture, and sharing that information with people.

I'm still in the process of finalizing WP themes and getting the feel I like, as well as setting up social media, also I'm currently trying to find a graphic designer to make a logo, banner, etc for my website, but the site is up.  I welcome constructive criticism should you so desire.  www.mysustainablelife.org
