WordPress Wizardry / Scheduled post not showing html
« on: October 09, 2013, 08:58:41 AM »
I know this forum has been hurting, but hopefully someone will see this.

When I schedule posts and the day comes and they go live, none of the adsense or youtube html embeds show up i have to go back in and post them and update the posts. which kindof defeats the purpose of scheduling the post itself

Motivational Mania / Progress so far
« on: February 05, 2013, 12:08:24 PM »
Its been awhile since i last posted, the birth of our child and life has just pretty much kept me to posting, working and playing with the baby!

Anyways, since October visit have increased 10 fold.  I was averaging about 200 a day in october, which increased to 300 in november with a spike of 1000+ two days of that week and December hit 500 a day with two spikes over 1000.  January increased to 700 and had 5 spikes over 1000 and February has brough thus far 1272 on feb 1, 1148 Feb 2, 1048 Feb 3, and 1118 Feb 4th.

The numbers jumped because i began to post everyday, i sat down when i had time and punched out numerous posts. so if i had time id do 2 or 5, depending on the day and the length of the post.  Doing this brought me on the radar of a few new aggregate sites that have since pushed my feed on theirs and that has been responsible for the big jump.  I was also put on top 50 best blog sites for my niche on one site and #7 out of 10 on another.  This was due to the fact i listened to the advice from Jack, followed my passion as well as received an IMMENSE amount of help from you all.

My google adsense is now sending me a check every month as well as amazon and linkshare revenue, enough to pay for the site for the most part, but the money over the top goes back into the site and helping promote it and give back to the readers/listeners Which im happy to do.

My other sites are fairing ok, my blackwaterjob site launched an ebook that has sold some copies, and has jumped in visitors since the last google update pushed me ahead of the crap sites that were one page and had three paragraphs and a crap toon of adsense pasted everywhere.  my water filter review site is Dead mostly because i havent touched it in 6 months, and was a experiment. Competition is too large and i cant compete without spending ALL My time doing it, and even them probably wouldnt help much without massive injections of cash into advertising.  SO i learned that!  I also started a new site that bases around a popular facebook game and it is paying for the hosting as of right now, but not much more, but that has only been up for around......3-4 weeks so im happy to be breaking even given that i spend 99% of my online work time with my main site.

Keep at it everyone, we are all hitting different benchmarks, i am very happy to be hitting the ones i am now, makes all that work seem worthwhile!

Search Engine Marketing / 206 hits
« on: October 20, 2012, 01:05:22 AM »
from what i understand in my cpanel aw stats in the download section...

206 hits are when someone listens to say an audio file, but not to the end or when someone like itunes rips it from your feed correct?

because im seeing a 46, 250 on one podcast, 16,297, 59,164 and im confused?

I dont have my feedburner up to register my actual itunes listens or anything...so....

General Business Issues and Ideas / duplicate content google
« on: October 07, 2012, 01:56:43 AM »
Posted this in the SEO section, and decided to post it here, hoping someone can help..

---------------------------------------------
So i was just thinking, after reading over and over again through these past 6 months about how Google doesnt like duplicate content, i would just skim that and say....well i dont do that so no worries!

Then!....Then....I realized that i am!

I originally had a main site built with sitebuilder through hostgator and a "Blog" on .wordpress.com
Eventually with all the pain and heartache that is involved with a newbie with no experience doing this, I built a brand new wordpress page on hostgator and transferred all the old wordpress blog posts and info to the new one.

However I left up the old blog to continue to drive traffic to the new site.

So this is what i did

1) I transferred 2-3 months worth of posts to the new site from the old blog
2) every month i would transfer the new posts from the new site to the old one

I did this thinking that alot of folks were still coming to the old site and i wanted them to be able to stay updated with the course of the blog.

i realize now i am possibly being penalized by google for this and not even know it!

What are your thoughts?

Should i delete the old posts off the new site and vice versa (new posts of the old site) ?

« on: September 13, 2012, 10:52:16 PM »
I have already submitted this before, but i think i have made some good changes and content has been flowing.

so can you take another look and let me know what you think works.

one of my main concerns is "clutter" is the front page too cluttered?

I want to offer adspace and do for some revenue, but i also want space for "my stuff" and i feel i may be overwhelming the visitors....

what say you all fellow travelers on the road to 100k?

Motivational Mania / PROGRESS!!
« on: September 12, 2012, 08:47:15 PM »
So my original site was www.greatnorthernprepper.com which i consider my baby and my passion, I put alot of my heart and soul (as well as lots of time!) into this site.  I try to get at least 5 posts a week into this and have been way to spotty with the podcast, was wanting a weekly, but it seemed like i would record, and not get around to it, or got busy and didnt get another recorded and it ended up being a bi-monthly podcast, which i dont want and have been working on getting consistency.

I first started out this whole process not knowing a DANG THING ABOUT IT! and had a steep learning curve and still do in most aspects, but the day to day i have down pat now.  I started out with around 0 maybe 1 or 2 the first few weeks and it climbed to 10-20 within the first 6 weeks (that was March).

I leveled off around 100 unique a day, and about 40 were from paid stumble upon that was spotty (one day average viewing was 3:41 the next 0:05)  so i quit the stumbleupon and said "self this will make it on its own"

so i dropped to 60-70 for awhile then got back up to 100...over the last two months it started to climb to the 125-150's then levelled off again for a month, but finally started creeping up.  In the last week i have now been averaging over 230 a day, which im excited about!

and i think from the data i see on analytics its going to stay that way and grow organically!

i am also hitting the point where the site is paying for itself so im not in the "paying money to work" mode but in the "working for free" mode which is awesome as weird as it sounds!

I started a few niche sites as well...well have two launched in the last 3 weeks and am working on the other 5 websites i bought.

Time is harder to come by now.  have a new daughter we welcomed a few weeks ago and my semester started for my final year in college (which by my age i should have finished years and years ago!)

Any advice on anything?

Peer Review - Website Blog Critique / Two niche sites for review
« on: September 12, 2012, 09:33:22 AM »
Let me know what you think, brutal honesty is always best! Its the only way i can get better!

www.blackwaterjob.com

www.purreview.com

After listening to Smart Passive income with Pat Flynn on Itunes and an episode with Nicole Dean, I agree with here in that any site you put up should make the internet a better place.  So yes i want to make money from ad revenue BUT i want these sites to offer value and not just junk.

So if theres too much adsense, not enough value, too little info, whatever let me know!

Affiliate Central / adsense not showing up
« on: September 12, 2012, 09:30:31 AM »
So I started a few niche sites lately.

One being www.blackwaterjob.com and after doing all the work putting up the content and then putting in adsense ads i look at it now and the first few articles on the page show the adsense ads, but as you move down they all appear yellow with nothing in it.

I was wondering...

1) Is this due to there being no ads relevant to the content (which i dont get because the related ads show up above)

2) too many adsense ads?

Thanks in advance

WordPress Wizardry / good subscribe/contact plugin
« on: August 20, 2012, 11:44:54 AM »
Looking for a good subscribe contact for plugin.

currently my jetpack on sucks, does not notify you when someone subscribes.

I have a few discounts offered to members, and all they have to do is subscribe to the site or join the forum to become "official"

i want to find a good plugin so that all someone has to do is put in their email and they get a email back saying hey thanks this is where the memebr discounts are heres the password.

and that it also subscribes them to the page so they get an email whenever a new post or podcast is put up

WordPress Wizardry / wordpress page access
« on: August 06, 2012, 06:53:59 PM »
Ok i have the "news child theme" on the genesis framework.

Everything up until today, as far as i know (at least from about 3 days ago and before), all the pages worked fine.

Now whenever i click on any page (categories work fine) that is linked on the drop down or even type it in manually, i go straight to the front homepage.  I even go into the page edits itself and "preview changes" and it goes to the homepage as well.

I installed the ecommerce plugin today, but have now disabled and deleted it thinking that may be the problem.  and it didnt help.

any thoughts?

Physical Products / wordpress shoppingcart plugin
« on: August 01, 2012, 04:51:38 PM »
I am going to start selling physical products through a seperate manufacturer.

what i need to find out is a good reliable paypal/credit card shopping cart plugin for wordpress

even some sort of "shopping cart function" that would work with just adding to the shopping cart and sending the order but they can send payment by check but they can find out the shipping and handling charges and overall price without using a calculator

WordPress Wizardry / wordpress password pages
« on: July 19, 2012, 09:55:59 AM »
SO basically i want to find a plugin that allows me to password protect a certain page, so that only folks with the password can get access to it.  Doesnt have to be NSA level security just a basic login, as well as a admin section that lets me delete or "fix" users accounts, like a forum board.

Podcasting Central / podcast analytics
« on: July 13, 2012, 06:10:24 PM »
So i successfully got into itunes feed is running well and apparently someone has been listening because my google analytics showed someone had searched "great northern prepper podcast intro song"

my question was how do i set up something to monitor the feed subscriptions, itunes subscriptions, downloads, etc.  itunes says they dont do it and i cant find it in podpress.
