Gotta love google. They buy a company, do nothing with it, and then kill it. :/

Announcements / Re: Will there be more eposides of 5 min WJack?

If you caught one episode of TSP the other day, he said that he doesn't know if he'll do more with 5mwj or not

On the topic of publishing and pricing ebooks.  One resource I came across in a recent podcast is called Lean pub https://leanpub.com/.  You can publish your book while you are writing it.  It is very democratic in the pricing model.  You can set a minimum price and a suggested price.  Then people can select how much they want to pay you, depending on how much value that you have given to the reader.

There are a number of ways that you can feed in information to it, but the most exciting to me is that you can take your blog posts and feed them into and repackage them as a book.  Jack has talked about when we change formats of delivering our content then people will want to exchange their money for it.

To hear the podcast that I heard it on you can listen here:

That is really cool and I will have to listen, I have thought about a few similar business models.  Tune in next week for one of my ideas in this vein.

.................I keep tuning in................ :(

Crap this is in the generic forum :)

I need more info.

What bulletin board software are they using now?
How does someone make a purchase now? Is there extra software involved? Is it paypal, clickbank, etc?

Well I am asking for the best solution, because I would be building it from scratch.  I think simple machines is pretty slick, but my client said she wants a pay solution because she thinks they are nicer.  This place is pretty nice in my opinion.

The ebooks are sold through e-junkie, and one of them is being (or needs to be) drop shipped through createspace.

My goal would be to use simple machines or PHPBB whichever is easier to design with a theme like this one (different colors logos of course, maybe even a slightly different feel).

Do I need to use amember?  I wouldn't need to keep track of whether a membership has expired since it's lifetime membership with ebook purchase.

Forums / how to make forum accessible to people who bought an ebook

So I may have a client who wants to make a premium boards section for her customers.  I'm not sure whether it would be only a few boards or all of the boards, but she wants to make those private for the buyers of an ebook.

Ideally I wouldn't be using amember, I'd rather just have a quick switch to flip whether they have access.  Can this be done without a monthly fee SaaS platform?

Thanks in advance.

Selling Your Stuff / Re: Contest
« on: May 10, 2012, 06:42:57 PM »
I'm not sure if this goes here but I think its the best fit.

When running a contest how should I promote it? Just through Twitter and Facebook? Or should I do something special to help get the word out?

Currently I just promote on Twitter and Facebook to my 10 likes lol.

Just wondering if I should take a different approach to get the best bang for my buck, and the sponsors buck too.

With a name like gunpreparedness, I'm guessing you're in the preparedness industry?  Youtube contests are hot in the prepper niche. Just browse around youtube and you're sure to find subscription contents.  I have a very rough draft of a guide of how to do this. If you want it PM me.

I love this episode.  Every time I get a human "guest post" request that has absolutely nothing to do with my niche, I send them this episode ;D

Get Help From The Pro's / Re: How do I get more YouTube Traffic

I have a guide I have been working on about this.  The gist is, sub to 100+ others that are in your niche.  Enter youtube contests. Do youtube contests. And post video responses.  Of course do great content as well.

PM me if you want the VERY rough draft of it.

Just to jump in here r00tbeer, I would have loved a free product (or maybe even a paid one) on how to set up a wireless router when I was looking.

Covering stuff like:

*WPA/WEP encryption
*Using dual band wireless to avoid interference from 2.4ghz phones
*Sharing other printers and computers.
*wireless signal issues.
*What happens when windows stops detecting your network.

Also as far as ebook lengths, look up http://chrisguillebeau.com/articles/  and his manefistos. He gives away 57+ pages at a time.  My free product is sitting right aroun 16-18 pages now, but its not quite complete yet.

One of Chris's books for sale is 57 pages + some audio.

Hey Jake,

I may have a bonus to offer to your members too. I haven't done anything with it in awhile but I used to have some goal setting software that would popup reminders and or audios of your goals every so often.  You'd set your goal, associate an image, and an audio and how often you want the popups. It's windows based.

Let me know if you're interested.

That sounds awesome!  I am planning to develop a time management/ getting things done style mobile app at some point in the future, but that would be a great free offer.

Do you have the source code for it too?  What are your terms?

Do both and test them.

I suppose that would be the obvious answer. I could A/B split test the pop up I believe and the branding... I will give it a shot.  Thanks!

I am writing a guide for my personal development site (unreasonablog.com) and I have two tentative titles.

The Unreasonable Guide to Social Hacks

The Unreasonable Guide to Social Influence

Hacks sounds more catchy as far as marketing goes, but influence is more descriptive.  It's basically going to be my email opt in bonus product. It covers a bunch of principles from psychology, NLP, history, and philosophy that help you deal with difficult people, make people like you, build relationships, and influence people.

I'm thinking of bullet points already

*Deal with difficult people
*Change people's opinion of you
*Build quality relationships

I would like your opinion on which title you think would convert better.

I finally finished your cross training podcast.  I enjoyed it.  Just FYI - for me, it was a bit long.  I'd prefer to listen to about 15-20 minutes at a stretch.  Keep posting them and I'll keep listening.

That's funny because I prefer 30-60 minute podcasts...

I would agree with what they said.  Explain the product more clearly and with more passion.  I watched it and I still couldn't figure out what it is or why I would want it.

Also, the name of the website doesn't make sense to me, but would be a GREAT domain for a site that teaches you to make adsense/amazon mini sites for example.

@benfitts I agree, ugly sites convert.  I think there is a correlation between sales and the number of gold seals you put on your salespage ;)

Nice One!

I think your proposed change to the adsense box is a good one.

As a suggestion... Its probably my bad eyesight but I find the textured backgound to your blog post content box makes for hard reading.

Thanks.  I was thinking that myself, it looks good, but it may be hard to read.  I may end up playing with the font and boldness to make it more readable.  I found one for my free product that works well.

Any other suggestions?  Seriously, everyone, tell me how I suck so I can unsuck.
